A salute to Don Grant, historian and archivist for Hollyburn Heritage Society
WVHS sadly announces to members the news that Don Grant, long time WVHS member and supporter, and Hollyburn Heritage Society historian, has died (Jan 22, 2021). Don was instrumental in the restoration of Hollyburn Lodge and as the organizer, with Alex Douglas, the Knight and Tapp families and many others, of the annual Pioneer Skiers Reunion. As the society’s historian and archivist, Don interviewed hikers and skiers, made films about the Lodge and collected films and photographs from the early days – all available on the society’s website.
A profile of Don from the North Shore News Memory Lane column authored by Laura Anderson talks about his love for Hollyburn and its stories. (Read here)
Don and his twin brother Derek were local boys and Don became a teacher at Gleneagles school in West Vancouver, where he was renowned for building a music program that included a full symphony orchestra.
Don was always ready to help with anything relating to local history and heritage, a wealth of information and generous with it. Our WVHS members will have their own memories of Don from earlier days and his time with WVHS.
Our heartfelt condolences to Don’s family and friends. Click here to read his obituary.
