The WVHS Speaker Series hosts a notable person to talk about West Vancouver’s history or other topics of historical interest.
Daphne Hales will be speaking on the history of the Girl Guides in West Vancouver.
Daphne Hales, originally from Liverpool, England, was a Brownie and Guide there in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Having spent the war years as an evacuee child in Peterborough, Ontario, she was determined to return to Canada post-university for a year. That was in 1960, and she is still here. She has held several positions with the Girl Guides (GGC) since 1972 – leader of Guides and Pathfinders, Provincial Camp Advisor, Vice Chair of the local Trefoil Guild and Chair of the GGC Phyl Munday Nature House in Lighthouse Park. She has always been interested in history and was a member for years of the GGC Lions Area Archive committee.
